Maine Self-Defense: Man shoots alleged knife-wielding robbery suspect in self-defense in Lewiston :: 11/22/2016
LEWISTON (WGME) -- Shots were fired in Lewiston after an alleged attempted robbery Friday night.
Police were called to 56 Birch Street around 8:30 p.m.
Police say two men with a knife tried to rob a 27-year-old man, but the victim defended himself with a .22 caliber handgun.
The man thought he did not hit anyone, but an hour after the incident, police say a man who ran from the scene went to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
Police arrested 27-year-old Abdulahi Abdi and charged him with robbery. Abdi was treated for his injury and released from the hospital.
Abdi is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $10,000 bail.
Police are searching for a second suspect.
