The attempted robbery was reported about 10:24 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Acacia Street.
Police said a 44-year-old man was in his vehicle when he was approached by a man he didn't know.
"The male put his hand underneath his shirt, implying he had a weapon and told the victim to give it up," police said in a preliminary report.
The victim reached into his glove compartment, where he had a gun, and the robber fled, police said.
No further information was available in the initial report.
